Synopsis
In this stunningly photographed adventure film based on a true story, engineer Solomon August Andree valiantly leads an ill-fated balloon expedition from Sweden to the North Pole.
Making the heroic trek with Andree are young Nils Strindberg (a relative of the famous writer August Strindberg) and Knut Fraenkel, a Norwegian athlete-intellectual.
Despite warnings that the balloon will never be able to make the trip, they head off on their quest... only to encounter trouble after just three days.
The three men wind up stuck on foot in the freezing Arctic, fighting for their lives for three months. As they trudge on through the snow, each man reminisces about his past romances.
